SJAA is run by an executive board, sport and referee directors, facility managers, and communications. Board members are volunteers from the community. For more information or to contact a board member, please see Contacts.
How can I volunteer?
If you are interested in joining the athletic board, please contact our president.
If you are interested in volunteering as a coach, you must meet all CYC Requirements. CYC sports start in 3rd grade for all sports except for soccer, which starts in 1st grade. If you are coaching an instructional league, the CYC coaching classes are not required.
You will also need to register as a volunteer for the appropriate sport/grade. The lay director for the sport will be in contact with you to ensure you have met the requirements and get you setup with a team.
Where can I purchase SJAA Hawks athletic apparel to support my athlete?
This situation varies depending on the timing and if there are waitlists for the grade you are signing up for. Your best bet is to contact the lay director for the sport you are interested in to see if you can still sign up.
What is the refund policy?
All refund requests MUST be made in writing (emails are sufficient), and addressed to appropriate lay director of that sport. All accepted refund requests for registration fees (paid) will be processed according to the following guidelines:
All refunds are subject to a $5 administration fee.
Requests received prior to Team Application Submission that does not affect Team Formation = 100% Refund less administration fee.
Requests received after Team Application Submission that does not affect Team Formation, and is requested prior to first scheduled game (including tournament games) = 50% Refund.
Requests received after Team Application Submission that does affect Team Formation = No Refund.
All other requests that fall outside these guidelines = SJAA Executive Board Approval Required with no guarantees.
NOTE: If uniform was received, uniform must be returned prior to refund being issued.
How and when do I return the uniform?
All uniforms must be returned at the designated date and time that will be communicated by the Uniform Manager once the season is complete. Uniforms must be returned in person with a parent signature.
Note for CYC uniforms, if not returned by date set by the Uniform Manager, a $65 replacement fee will be charged to the player's Team Sideline account.
What is the $5 CYC Membership fee that is being charged during registration?
This $5 fee is charged once per school year, per athlete in CYC programs. This goes to the CYC central office and helps cover the costs of TeamSideline.
Do I need a CYC Card?
CYC cards are no longer needed. You will upload a photo of your child when registering for a CYC sport and that is used with the roster for player verification.
Can my child play with their friend?
Requests to play with another child or with a certain coach need to be made during the registration process in the comments section. We try to accomodate requests, but can't gaurantee all will be met.
Season Specific
Where are practices and games?
Practices for soccer and baseball/softball/t-ball are at Wiles Field at 1622 Marriott Ln, Barnhart, MO 63012.
Practices for volleyball and basketball are at the St. Joseph Gym at 6024 Old Antonia Rd, Imperial, MO 63052.
Practices for chess are at the St. Joseph CCC at 6024 Old Antonia Rd, Imperial, MO 63052.
Our home games are held at Wiles Field or the St. Joseph Gym. Away games are held at various fields and gyms in the area. Golf matches and chess tournament locations can vary and will be communicated by the lay sports director.
When and how often are games and practices?
How often practices happen varies and is dependant upon the year, sport, coach, and other factors. You will generally see 1-2 practices a week until the season starts. Once games start, practices tend to be less often if at all. You will typically have about 10 games in a season.
The timing of practices and games follows this general schedule, but can vary depending on the coach's scheduling. In the end, the coach will set the schedule for practices and communicate with you. The exact day/time of practice will not be known until registration is complete, teams are set, and practice times have been chosen by coaches.
Soccer - practices are typically on weekdays. Games are typically weekends. Boys' games are on Saturday and girls' games are on Sunday.
Volleyball - practices can be on the weekend and/or weeknights. Games are typically weekends. Girls' games are on Saturday and boys' games are on Sunday.
Chess - practices are typically on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm. Tournaments are on Saturdays.
Basketball - practices can be on the weekend and/or weeknights. Games are typically weekends.
Baseball/Softball/T-ball - practices can be on the weekend and/or weeknights. Games are typically weeknights, but can be on the weekends once you are in cross-district play (5th-8th grade).
Golf - practices are typically on a weekday. Matches are typically weekends.
Where do I find my game schedule?
Leverage the TeamSideline app on your mobile device. The coach will load the game schedule in the app when it is made available to them by CYC.
How do I know if games are cancelled?
This is most common during baseball season, but soccer can be cancelled on occasion as well. Usually your coach will communicate with you, but you can also check our field status page. Make sure you are checking the field that your game will be played on. Please know that this site defaults to "All games will be played" every day so you will need to check back often to see updates. For example: a baseball game that starts at 6 may not show cancelled up until 4:30PM.
What equipment does my child need?
You will be provided with a jersey/shirt for the sport you sign up for, in most cases. Each sport has different equipment requirements and the coach may request matching shorts/pants, socks, etc. Check out What We Offer for sport specific equipment requirements.
